CBS, één van de grootste televisiekanalen in Amerika, gaat investeren in een nieuwe serie van de franchise Star Trek. Na de teleurstellende bioscooprelease in de zomer van 2016 wordt er geopteerd om de legendarische serie terug tot leven te brengen op de traditionele beeldbuis waar het thuis hoort. In Europa zal deze CBS-productie in België te zien zijn op Netflix binnen de 24 uur na de Amerikaanse release. Star Trek: Discovery wordt verwacht op 24 september 2017 en als bekende namen worden o.m. Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Tomorrow Never Dies, Sunshine) als Starfleet Captain Georgiou genoemd, Anthony Rapp (A Beautiful Mind) als Luitenant Stamets & Doug Jones (Hellboy, Bye Bye Man) als Luitenant Saru. Ook wordt gemeld dat The Walking Dead-actrice Sonequa Martin-Green een centrale rol zal opnemen in Star Trek: Discovery als Lieutenant Commander.
