Netflix & Sony Pictures gaan internationale samenwerking aan, Netflix wordt streamingdienst van Sony’s bioscoopfilms in VS maar niet België

MoviePulpers, er is toch één filmstudio die het heeft begrepen. Sony Pictures Entertainment heeft een first pay deal getekend met de grootste streamingdienst van de wereld, Netflix. Zo zal zijn 74 miljoen gebruikers vanaf 2022 toegang krijgen tot bioscoopfilms zoals De Mitchells tegen De Machines, Morbius, Uncharted, Where the Crawdads Sing, Bullet Train, Spider-Man Into the SpiderVerse 2, Venom: Let There be Carnage, Spider-Man No Way Home, Jumanji 4 & Bad Boys 4 .

Reactie van Netflix:

“Sony Pictures is a great partner and we are thrilled to expand our relationship through this forward-thinking agreement,” Scott Stuber, Head of Global Films at Netflix, said in a statement. “This not only allows us to bring their impressive slate of beloved film franchises and new IP to Netflix in the U.S., but it also establishes a new source of first run films for Netflix movie lovers worldwide.”

Reactie van Sony:

“Netflix has been a terrific partner as we continue to expand our relationship,” Keith Le Goy, President, Worldwide Distribution and Networks, Sony Pictures Entertainment. “At Sony Pictures, we produce some of the biggest blockbusters and the most creative, original films in the industry. This exciting agreement further demonstrates the importance of that content to our distribution partners as they grow their audiences and deliver the very best in entertainment.”

De samenwerking klinkt misschien zo groots als toen Sony Columbia Pictures opkocht in de jaren ’90, maar hij is niet helemaal verrassend. Netflix kocht in het verleden al heel wat Sony TV-producties op als Originals zoals Bloodline, Cobra Kai & The Crown. Sony stond ook nog nergens op het vlak van streaming tegenover concurrenten zoals Disney,
Warner, Comcast & Paramount. De deal geldt wel enkel voor de VS, er is geen sprake over Europa of België. Tot slot is er nog geen duidelijkheid of Netflix net zoals Disney Plus een VIP-toegang gaat lanceren, maar naar alle waarschijnlijkheid zal het HBO’s model volgen.
