Zoals reeds aangekondigd op onze blog en voorspelt een lange tijd terug, werd bekendgemaakt tijdens de Investor Day 2020 dat Disney een nieuwe label gaat lanceren binnen zijn populaire streamingdienst. Star zal de content van FX, Hulu- & andere KNT-content van 20st Century Studios bundelen vanaf 23 februari 2021 op Disney Plus België (registreren kan via deze link). Ook zal de prijs lichtjes stijgen.
Op 23 februari 2021 wordt Star het 6de merk dat lanceert op Disney Plus België naast Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars & National Geographic. Daarmee brengt Disney naast de geweldige verhalen van Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars & National Geographic nog meer entertainment naar zijn streaming service Disney Plus, allemaal op één plaats. Star belooft de kijker meer: meer series en meer films. Star zal de hoeveelheid content die nu al beschikbaar is binnen Disney+ verdubbelen. Het wordt de thuis voor 1.000 uren televisie en films van Disney’s creatieve studio’s, waaronder Disney Television Studios, FX, Hulu, 20th Century Studios & 20th Television. Een aantal titels die bij de lancering van Star beschikbaar zal zijn:

Plannen zijn ook om de Alien-films, Kingsmen-films, Snowfall, Atlanta & meer toe te voegen aan Star, maar daar wordt nog het nodige voor gedaan qua distributierechten in België (een deel zit voorlopig nog bij Streamz, Netflix & Amazon Prime Video). Ook zullenThe Simpsons dat momenteel reeds beschikbaar is op Disney Plus, verhuizen naar de label Star. Op Investor’s Day werd ook aangekondigd dat Disney van plan is om meer dan 50 nieuwe titels te introduceren op Star tegen 2024. Meer titels zullen vrijgegeven worden in de loop van februari 2021 wanneer Star officieel op Disney Plus België lanceert, maar er zullen tussen de 1.300 tot 2.000 titels bijkomen tegen het einde van het jaar (hou het Streamingaanbod van België stevig in de gaten voor de laatste nieuwe updates of download onze app voor Android).

Vanaf 23 februari 2021 is Star dus beschikbaar voor alle Disney Plus-klanten in België, maar niet voor iedereen die inlogt in jouw Disney Plus-account. De streamingservice beschermt ‘me-time’ van ‘kids-time’ op het platform dankzij ouderlijk toezicht. Met de update van de app wordt het gemakkelijk om ouderlijk toezicht in te stellen, zodat Disney+ beschikbaar blijft voor alle leeftijden, maar content alleen gezien kan worden indien de leeftijd van het profiel toereikend is om deze te kunnen bekijken. Disney Plus klanten kunnen een toegangscode instellen voor profielen die toegang hebben tot volwassen content.
