Het zat er aan te komen, maar nu is het officieel: De sterkste Marvel-series op Netflix België, respectievelijk The Punisher & Jessica Jones, komen niet meer terug naar Netflix. Dat bevestigt Netflix in een officiële boodschap. Daarmee is het ook meteen over & out voor het Defenders-universum, hoewel Hulu de deur open zette om de series opnieuw te lanceren als er interesse is. Jessica Jones S3 wordt het laatste seizoen van het Defenders team dat op Netflix wordt vertoond ergens voor de zomer van 2019.
Officieel zegt Netflix aan Deadline.com over The Punisher:
“Marvel’s The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix. Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come.”
Het voegt eraan toe dat ook Jessica Jones niet meer verder zal gaan:
“In addition, in reviewing our Marvel programming, we have decided that the upcoming third season will also be the final season for Marvel’s Jessica Jones. We are grateful to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, star Krysten Ritter, and the entire cast and crew, for three incredible seasons of this groundbreaking series, which was recognized by the Peabody Awards among many others.”
Ook tonen Marvel Studios & Netflix dat er geen vete is tussen elkaar:

Netflix bracht met de lancering van zijn streamingdienst in België in 2015 zijn eerste Marvel-serie uit: Daredevil. Deze werden snel gevolgd door Jessica Jones, Iron Fist & Luke Cage om dan eindelijk tot een apotheose te komen in The Defenders. Sindsdien ging het enkel maar bergaf met enkel The Punisher S1 die als absolute top te bestempelen is in het hele gebeuren en Daredevil die nagenoeg geheel consistent bleef over zijn 3 seizoenen heen.
Is daarmee de streamingoorlog begonnen tussen Disney+ & Netflix?
